Weapons Found at Donald Trump Asheboro Rally, Person Arrested

Weapons were found at the site of former President Donald Trump’s rally in Asheboro, North Carolina, on Wednesday, and one person was arrested, according to local media reports.
News station WNCN reported that police arrested a man at the rally location around 4:30 p.m. ET, after Trump and his running mate, Senator JD Vance, had already wrapped up their speeches at the campaign stop in the critical battleground state.
There have been no reports of any injuries at the rally.
The incident comes after a shooting at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, last month. That shooting has been investigated as an assassination attempt against the former president. It sparked a wave of criticism toward the Secret Service, as well as calls for members of both major political parties to calm their political rhetoric.
Trump was speaking at the rally on July 13 when he was shot on stage, with a bullet hitting the upper part of his right ear. The gunman, identified by the FBI as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, was shot and killed by the Secret Service.
A rally attendee, 50-year-old former firefighter Corey Comperatore, was killed during the incident.
The North Carolina event marked Trump’s first outdoor rally since the shooting, and the former president was seen standing behind bulletproof glass during his speech.
WNCN reported heavy police presence at the rally site as attendees left the venue. Police were seen putting two men into handcuffs, with one being taken into custody.
Officers also removed weapons from a car, according to the report.
Police have not released information about their identities or the specific weapons that were seized at the rally. They did not say why weapons were in the vehicle.
Jay Hanson, the assistant chief of police, told the news station, “I can tell you that one person is apparently being charged, and no one was injured.”
The specific charges the individual faced were not publicly released Wednesday afternoon.
Newsweek reached out to the Asheboro Police Department for comment via email.
Trump has not publicly commented on the incident.
The incident remains under investigation by the Asheboro Police Department, according to WNCN. Hanson told the news station that more information would be released later.
